Dokkum is the northernmost fortified city in the Netherlands, located in the province of Friesland. It is famous for its well-preserved star-shaped bulwarks (*bolwerken*), canals, and historic city center. Dokkum is also the place where the Anglo-Saxon missionary Saint Boniface was martyred in 754.
