Getting Around
Yuanyang is not easily accessible, with no airport or train station. Visitors typically arrive in Kunming first, then take a long-distance bus (approx. 6-8 hours) to Yuanyang's new town (Nansha), and then transfer to a local minivan or private car to reach the scenic areas of the terraces (e.g., Duoyishu, Bada, Laohuzui). Chartering a car is best for getting around the scenic spots.
Local Flavors
Yuanyang's cuisine is dominated by Hani and Yi ethnic specialties, characterized by sour and spicy flavors. Ingredients are often locally sourced natural products like red rice from the terraces, wild vegetables, and free-range livestock. Trying home-cooked meals in local villages is the best way to experience authentic flavors.
